I am an ecologist, with particular interests in species distributions, interspecific interactions, feeding ecology, and conservation of birds. Fundamentally, I am fascinated by the various reasons why species are distributed where they are, and how new sources of data (especially "citizen"/participatory science) can expand our knowledge of those patterns.

Together with a team of collaborators and students, my research work is focused
on seabirds of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.  I am a Assistant Professor at Thomas College, in Waterville, Maine, where I primarily focus on preparing students for careers in the sciences and related professions. I also continue to collaborate with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and staff aboard expedition cruise vessels in polar regions, working on projects to use eBird data to map seabird distributions.
